Since the Pilgrim Fathers landed in New England, the region has been at the heart of the story of the USA. Visit today and you can expect a warm welcome, beautiful beaches and mountains, a rich history and culture, fantastic food and lots of fun!
New England is a year-round destination; lots of options for hiking, sailing and biking in the spring and summer months with snow sports available in the winter. Everyone has their favourite New England State and season, our top six would be:
- Hit the Connecticut wine trail; the scenery will take your breath away and the vineyard tours are welcoming, informative and delicious.
- Eat lobster in coastal Maine! (and take a whale watching cruise)
- See the fall colours in Vermont
- Explore the US colonial and revolutionary past in Boston, Mass
- Explore Merrimack Valley, New Hampshire; culture, arts, planetarium, shaker village – all in a backdrop of breath taking New England scenery
- Take in some music on Rhode Island at the Newport Jazz Festival or the Newport Folk Festival.
Top Tip: snow sports are available in most of the New England States; although not as well known as other resorts in North America the snow is good and the facilities excellent. If you’re a snowboarder consider Stratton, Vermont – the place where snowboarding was born!
What can we say?! Nothing that hasn’t been said before!
There is so much to see and do in the city that never sleeps; it’s a vibrant, exciting, lively melting pot with the oasis of calm that is Central Park at it’s core. Spend your days shopping on 5th Avenue, wowing at the views from the Empire State Building, reflecting on the US past at Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, taking a tour of NY sites and streets made famous in the movies and on TV. In the evening enjoy five star dining and, if you’d like, we can also help to arrange your Broadway theatre tickets.
If you want to look beyond the five boroughs, then upstate New York is a beautiful state to explore. New York State runs from Niagara in the west to Long Island in the east. There is lots of opportunity for hiking, horse riding, biking and boating. The Catskills and Adirondacks are known the world over for their stunning scenery, also consider the Finger Lakes region with its deep clear lakes, spectacular gorges, abundant waterfalls and fishing and boating opportunities.
A visit to upstate New York could be ideally suited to a fly drive holiday, perhaps spending a couple of nights in NYC before heading out to explore the wider state.
Washington DC is easy to overlook as a holiday destination, but we love to visit DC, it’s a beautiful city with some great attractions and wonderful restaurants!
No visit to Washington would be complete without stopping by the White House. There’s a whole heap of other activities open to you;
- visit in the spring and see the beautiful National Cherry Blossom Festival. (dates for 2024 are 20 March - 14 April)
- the National Art Gallery shows a vast collection of American and international works across two buildings
- The Smithsonian Institute has several locations in DC. One of our favourites is the National Air and Space Museum it’s a fascinating place to spend a couple of hours. The American Indian museum would also be high on our list of places to visit.
- walk through the National Mall and pay a visit to the Lincoln Memorial
Washington is a foodie town, you will be spoilt for choice with gourmet restaurants offering just about every cuisine under the sun. Try to also make time for a visit to Ben’s Chilli Bowl whilst in town, the chilli half-smoke (basically a hot dog with chilli) and cheese fries is a DC staple, vegetarian options are available. Past customers include Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, and Barack Obama.
